Working from a small studio in Shropshire Jill creates kiln-formed, predominantly fused glass sometimes with function, sometimes without. Typically in bold colours, often with complex patterns, usually ordered & balanced though not necessarily symmetrical.
‘I experiment with colour and pattern:
Colours in compliment & contrast; enriched by the unique interaction between glass and light.
Patterns influenced by science & geometry, by nature and by clever man-made design.’
Everything is constructed by hand before kiln firing, sometimes repeatedly. And although kiln-formed processes are ancient, glass is still not totally predictable and well-behaved, which only serves to make the experimentation more exciting.
